Winning Is Sweet

Winning isn't everything, but a publications award can work magic on the morale of editors, designers, publishers, and advertisers. Why?

  • Awards confer credibility. Audience and publisher feel new appreciation for an award-winning publication.
  • Awards are uppers. Hardworking editorial and design staff learn their efforts have value outside the company's four walls — it's called outside validation.
  • Awards are sales tools: Publishers can link the announcement of an award with publicity for other company services and products.

It's true! Here are some contests for you to enter. Good Luck!
"Share the Wealth" Packet & "L. PeRCy" Awards

The librarypublicrelationscouncil conducts the "Share the Wealth" and "L. PeRCy" competitions each year with winners announced at the ALA Conference.

The "Share the Wealth" is a juried competition in which lprc looks for innovative and effective public relations/publicity pieces. The judges select: 40 to 50 entries which are then assembled in packets and mailed to the entire lprc membership.

The "L. Percy" Awards honor outstanding publicity materials produced by libraries serving populations of different sizes. To encourage participation by libraries of all types and size, entry categories vary from year to year.

You will find information and an entry forms on the "Share the Wealth" Packet entry form and the "L. PeRCy" Awards entry form with information about the 2002 competitions here.
