Help In Taxing Times From time-to-time, librarians will find patrons looking for poetry. Here is a snippet of verse from an unknown, unpublished, but astute poet to share as April 15 approaches: Early to bed, After the holidays, as Spring begins to spring and thoughts turn to our annual contribution to our favorite Uncle, most libraries will be stocking-up on tax forms (on CD ROM?) and fielding those dreaded tax-related reference questions. But did you know that the IRS can also provide you with volunteer help in tax education, on the presentation of tax seminars and even tax preparation? They can indeed! Visit the IRS District Taxpayer Education Coordinators page at http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/prod/taxi/districtcoords.html and find out what's available in your area. From there you can download a brochure (publication 1275 in Acrobat format) which outlines the available programs and tells how to get (or provide) volunteer tax help in your library. If none of the above moves you, you can just link to the IRS Forms and Publications Page at http://www.irs.ustreas.gov/prod/forms_pubs/index.html on your library home page and let patrons find 'em themselves.
Pray for refunds and pass the 1040s. |
